UN-DESA Grant – Powering the Future We Want initiative

The project “Powering the Future We Want – Recognizing Innovative Practices in Energy for Sustainable Development” offers a one million US dollar grant annually to institutions and/or individuals that have demonstrated leadership and innovation in promoting sustainable energy. The recipients of the grant are expected to apply the funds to furthering their best practices and to building capacity in developing countries. The initiative is led by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), in collaboration with the China Energy Fund Committee (CEFC), a Hong Kong-based NGO in consultative status with ECOSOC.

For more than 50 years, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation has worked with partners around the world to improve the lives of children, families, and communities—and to restore and protect the planet. The Foundation supports individuals and institutions working to achieve a biologically rich and sustainable world, working on the following Program Areas: Conservation and Science; Population and Reproductive Health; Children, Families, and Communities. In the Conservation and Science Program the grants are focused on ocean and land conservation, climate change mitigation and scientific research. The Foundation invests in action and ideas that conserve and restore ecosystems while enhancing human well-being.

Through its grants, the Environment Program of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation pursues four goals designed to protect the environment for future generations: conserving the ecological integrity of the western United States and Canada for people and wildlife; avoiding the worst effects of global climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions; ensuring clean and efficient supplies of energy while protecting human health and the environment; reducing environmental problems that disproportionately affect disadvantaged communities. The Foundation’s grants may be used to support public education, nonpartisan research and analysis, and permissible policy-related activities.

Fondazione Cariplo is a philanthropic institution that gives grants to third sector organizations for the realization of social projects in Italy. Fondazione Cariplo operates in four areas: Environment, Art and Culture, Scientific Research, Human Services. Grants are awarded primarily through various allocative instruments: competition announcements, and symbolic, territorial, institutional and sponsorship donations. In any case, those eligible for assistance, even if their statutes do not bear the clauses listed, are organizations enrolled in the regional registers of social cooperatives, volunteer organizations or those included in the national NGO rosters. It declines grant requests from individuals.
